SUGAR AND SALT

Hey dearest reader. I hope the week has been a great one for you because mine certainly was. I also had a great and busy time last weekend. Despite the fun, I almost fell sick, going into some details I would like to share with you my experience over the weekend and cautions to take before embarking on a journey, have an appointment/date as well as going to an uncomfortable environment; uncomfortable in the sense that you do not know how neat or convenient the place is for you.

Firstly, for someone like me that loves to travel. It is advisable not to drink too much water or eat heavy in the cause of your journey especially if the destination is a long distance. This is to avoid unnecessary stop overs if you are transiting by road. I will also advice not to eat unhealthy or what you are not sure of in the cause of an engagement which can possibly lead to a 'clash of the worms in the bowels' which actually triggered this particular post. I had some fried rice from an eatery when I traveled recently, prior to that time my cousin advised I ate something else as he had fallen victim by eating some meals and that fried rice also at such times, evening to be precise. I refused, confident I had immunity to cope and not react to anything. But guess what I had an event to cater for the next day and just as I was about stepping out the unimaginable happened. I can proudly call it a miracle for not landing in the hospital. The antidote to all that happened after visiting the loo endlessly and sweating like I was about to be sacrificed was just sugar and salt.
Many may be aware of this and some really may just be hearing of it. Well if you fall into the latter category this just made me happy. lol. After using a drug that was suppose to counter it, mum made the solution for me, as weird as it was I drank it and I got my balance after a long while even though I still felt weak. Can you imagine what would have happened if it got worse? my plans, my event, the client waiting for her services to be rendered and I was lying painfully in bed. Certainly it will have yielded  a negative repercussion.

I would delightfully like to include avoiding the choice of certain foods consumed before heading to an event. Nothing can be more embarrassing as having a few intellectual minds or corporate bodies in a meeting and stale smell keeps savoring the environment from you to them. It could even be a date. Eating the likes of too much protein as beans, eggs and other foods that can release dangerous gas called 'farts' can be embarrassing even more when it is a secluded environment: raised eyebrows of suspicious trailing with ones nose.

To be candid these things can be really embarrassing and cause a whole lot of discomfort. Whatever the environment, some people find it weird being caught on the spot. Its better to prevent such occurrences than 'exhume' them with no apologies.

Thank you for reading. Please keep reading, comment and share.

According to Dr Tony Rapu, Senior Pastor at This Present House, ‘My Lagos Diaries is a first-hand experience of challenges people face trying to survive in the city of Lagos. Since inception, the Freedom Foundation has transformed and positively impacted several lives in impoverished communities including but not limited to Ejigbo, Ijora, Iwaya, Bariga and Somolu, and led to the creation of this video journal which documents 10 years of my team and I’s experiences in these areas’.

'OKRIKA' vs NEW: does it change your personality?

Hello to you amazing Reader,This is my first post this year so I would like to welcome you by saying happy new year, and wish you the best of 2017.

I was skeptical about writing this post but on a serious note it is simply about the 'label' lifestyle especially with our clothing which was triggered from a conversation among some friends .Looking good they say is good business so lets relax in this business with the issue of 'tear label' and 'ok, okrika, or tokunbo as it is popularly known as.

Growing up I had the best of everything NEW and practically have the mindset that wearing 'OK' was not healthy for the skin for some reason I do/did not even understand. I remember a time a relative sighted something nice and thought it will be great on me, thank God I was there if not it will have been a waste of money as I refused and my mum said to the person 'her father must not see you give this to her o, even the girl would not wear it either'. On the other hand when I got more matured more so with my entry into uni, I saw a lot of ladies who wore these kind of clothes and some of them even took as business and I honestly was surprised because many of these girls were apparently financially alright and were the big boys and girls on some level. Even more surprising I had an aunt who sold new things but would not get her eyes off 'tokunbo', I still wonder why. One particular day I got angry when I saw a similar one of my new clothes in someone's bail and then it occurred to me, really if myself and this person wore this cloth who will know the difference of which is new or OK. Amazingly people get to see even new things and some expensive outfits from there(finding diamond in the rough?). I also thought to myself; imagine someone walked to a charity shop on the high street to get an outfit of interest, its certainly in that category too just more packaged even if your siblings pass down clothes and items to you regardless of the designer..

The truth of the matter is a lot of people have preferences. From what I observed, many people wear OK, of whom few can still afford to buy new things because it is believed that you get to see quality and nice stuff from them which comes in grades, many people also wear new things because they love it and it is 'ON THE RACK' with intact label. This is not limited to clothes but even household and daily use items because if you buy a car without 'nylon' its tokunbo ; if you move into a building not newly built but also occupied by a previous tenant- its 'OK' even when you kitchen equipment imported with TOKUNBO cars what is that also called?

Either categories, its best to please one self. Cut your envelop to match your pocket. It is choice(s) that make individuals shop for new and fairly used. I have shared my opinion on this, practically speaking I can be a label-holic but I would like to hear yours, does wearing new or OK products make any difference?

Thanks for reading. Please share or drop a comment. Once again happy new year.
